Ayurvedic Remedies for common Prenatal Health Concerns

I have been researching about Ayurvedic Remedies for common Prenatal concerns, like morning sickness, constipation and gastritis.

I have been teaching a lot of Pregnant women who are suffering with these issues, so I thought of figuring out different home remedies to be able to help them.
I do hope it will help some of my readers. Do write back about other concerns / issues. I will research some more and come up with remedies.

 Morning Sickness / Nausea :
Morning sickness can start from the 1st or 2nd week of pregnancy and continue up-to the 4th month. Some women have nausea throughout their pregnancy. There are various reasons for morning sickness like hormonal changes in the body, dietary deficiencies, stress, lack of rest and sleep.
These are couple of ayurvedic home remedies which you can try; do observe your body's reaction to them; do stop if you feel uncomfortable.

--- Ginger : This is considered one of the best remedies for nausea. It can be taken in with food or in tea.
You can chew a small piece of fresh ginger to relieve the symptoms of morning sickness.
--- Lemon : You can sniff at a slice of fresh lemon peel, to reduce the feeling of nausea.
--- Mint ( Pudina ) Leaves : Dice a couple of fresh mint leaves, boil them with water, and have it as a light
 tea.
--- Increase Vitamin B in Diet : Morning sickness also increases because of deficiency in Vitamin B. Do start becoming more aware of your diet, increase intake of vegetables, fresh fruits, sea food, roasted nuts and water.
--- Oranges :  Increase your intake of citrus fruits like oranges. Besides helping with nausea, it also provides lots of Vitamin C, which  is essential for maintaining a healthy immune system.

 Constipation:
--- Apply 2 -3 drops of warm castor oil on the navel before going to bed.
--- Another easy remedy is to eat raisins on a regular basis. Soak 6 - 8 raisins in warm water; crush them slightly and eat.
--- Mix 1 tablespoon of honey, 2 tsp of fresh lemon juice with half a glass of warm water; drink it warm early in the morning.
--- Try to avoid aerated drinks like coke or sprite. Reduce intake of diuretics like coffee or tea. Both of these can dehydrate you and increase constipation.
--- Increase intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. This is one of the best ways to reduce constipation.
--- Do try to walk everyday, 30 mins - 45 mins would work ideally for most women.
--- Start gentle exercises or start Prenatal yoga to keep the muscles moving and the body flexible.

 Gastritis / Bloating / Acidity :
--- Fresh Coconut water is an excellent remedy for gastritis.
--- After food, chew half a teaspoon of fresh fennel seeds. This also helps in digestion and releasing the bloating sensation.
--- Take half a glass of buttermilk, add a pinch of asafoetida, a pinch of freshly ground cumin powder, mix well and drink in between meals.
--- Boil  half a teaspoon ajwain seeds with water; sieve this mixture and drink it warm as a light tea.

Hopefully, these will help some of my moms-to-be feel a little better and enjoy this beautiful phase of their
 lives.

In Peace,
Asha.
